Roster, ranks & roles
A rank ladder for prestige, capability roles for permissions, and two-way sync with Discord.
mustr deliberately splits rank and role — they move independently, which is what makes "a trusted member who isn't an officer" possible to express, something a single linear ladder can't do.
Ranks — the ladder
A rank is a position on an ordered ladder (Recruit → Member → Veteran → Officer → Command, or whatever tiers your org uses). Ranks carry prestige and can gate visibility, but a rank by itself grants no admin capability. Admin → People → Ranks & Roles lets you create, reorder, and delete ranks.
Promoting or demoting a member updates their Discord role and nickname automatically — the sync runs both ways, so a rank change on the site or a role change in Discord (via /promote) both keep the two in step.
Deleting a rank that has members opens a reassignment dialog rather than silently orphaning them: pick a destination rank (defaults to the next-lower one) and a reason. The move is logged.
Roles — the capabilities
A role is a bundle of permissions (see the table below) that can be granted to any member independent of their rank. A brand-new recruit can hold a role that lets them manage the gallery; a senior veteran might hold no admin role at all. Roles also carry an optional Discord role mapping, so granting a mustr role can sync a matching Discord role.
The permission vocabulary
Every admin action is gated on a named permission, assigned to roles by an admin. A short sample of the vocabulary:
| Permission | Allows |
|---|---|
roster.promote | Change a member's rank. |
roles.assign | Grant and revoke roles on members. |
members.approve | Approve or reject people applying to join. |
members.ban | Ban a Discord user and manage the ban list. |
events.manage | Create, edit, and cancel events. |
tournaments.manage | Create tournaments, seed brackets, report results. |
settings.manage | Edit site settings. |
The full list covers every admin surface in the product — roster, roles, news, medals, training, games, events, tournaments, galleries, theming, pages, alliance, hangar visibility, audit, and Discord sync.
The "God" account
The very first person to complete the setup wizard becomes the owner — a special status that bypasses every permission check by design. It's the recovery hatch that prevents anyone, including the founder, from ever locking themselves out of their own site. It isn't assignable through the UI; only the setup wizard's first claim grants it.
